<image:title>Forever Favorites - Taylor Swift - Taylor Swift (2006)</image:title>
<image:caption>At just 17 years old, Taylor Swift emerged with a debut album better than some senior artsists put out well into their career. Spunky and sonically diverse, the self-titled album is an piece of nostalgia for anyone craving 2000’s pop country or some good ol’ Swift-style storytelling. By no means a perfect album, the record clearly leaves room for improved vocals and production (as would be expected of a 17 year-old). Likewise, while coherent, the record can feel like a series of singles.</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - Taylor Swift - Fearless (2008)</image:title>
<image:caption>Perhaps her most overall iconic album to date, Fearless was just as big of a hit then as it is now. Featuring some of her catchiest and most dramatic songs to date, the 2008 record was a tremendous step-up from the debut in terms of overall production and vocals. I think part of this more appealing sound came from the shift away from the awkward country sound in Taylor Swift, as Fearless had more of that commerical pop sound while maintaining a country soul.</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - Taylor Swift - Speak Now (Deluxe Edition) (2010)</image:title>
<image:caption>Again, with a country soul but a commerical sound, Taylor dominated the radio with Speak Now with the most theatrics we had seen to-date (i.e. Long Live) With a sonically full, rock-inspired touch, Speak Now unlocked new emotions we had not yet heard in Taylor’s music. Of course, the storytelling on this album was excellent, and I stand by Last Kiss being one of her best and saddest songs ever (THAT BRIDGE!).</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - Taylor Swift - Red (2012)</image:title>
<image:caption>Ah, yes. Red feels like it began Taylor’s defined “eras”. From the tracklist to the Taylor’s aesthetic at the time, Red embodied the early 2010’s tumblr core that is a litte… less nostalgic now (thigh gaps and EDs, fedoras, and skinny jeans is all I remember). Extremely coherent yet her sonically diverse yet, Red was Taylor’s biggest step away from country into a rock-infused pop sound that feels like freedom. While there are some misses on Red for me, the production on the record was her best yet.</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - Taylor Swift - 1989 (2014)</image:title>
<image:caption>Taylor’s full throttle into pop brought with her biggest run of smash hits yet. From Welcome to New York to New Romantics, 1989 is candy-coated with some of the catchiest dream-pop ballads of the 2010’s. Taylor’s songwriting at an all-time high combined with top-tier production made for a simply unbeatably fun and timeless record that never goes out of style (pun INTENDED). Nonetheless, 1-2 tracks could have been omitted due to how similar they were.</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - Taylor Swift - reputation (2017)</image:title>
<image:caption>reputation didn’t initially call to me. The buzz surrounding the album was tremendous, but I didn’t find my way to the album until a couple of years post-release. A less sophisticated but arguably more fun record than 1989, reputation was more than just pop music. It was about Taylor’s recovery and comeback following some of the hardest years of her career. Depsite this hardship, Swift was able to emerge with some of her best songs yet (i.e. Delicate, Gorgeous, Dress).</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - Taylor Swift - Lover (2019)</image:title>
<image:caption>Lover, too, was a record that took it’s time to grow on me. The disproportionate attention given to songs like You Need To Calm Down and ME! initially scared me away, but once you sink into the love story of Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn, Lover becomes an especially beautiful album. While the aesthetic of the album was not one of my favorites (I’m just not a rainbow glitter kind of gal), I think it is a treasure chest of some of her sweetest songs yet.</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - Taylor Swift - folklore (2020)</image:title>
<image:caption>folklore was both bold and safe for Taylor. It was bold in the sense that it was a head-first plunge into folk pop while it was safe in the sense that her songs, for the first time, risked sounding similar to one another. While folklore can be a bit overly-homogenous or repetitive at times, it was indisputably successful at creating a uniquely special atmosphere. It evoked new emotions as an album via both new stories and forms of storytelling.</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - FKA Twigs - LP1 (2014)</image:title>
<image:caption>LP1 was one hell of a debut. Twigs’ emerges as an ultra self-controlled Björk of our generation with her own swaggy, sexy spin on avant-garde experimental alternative music. She integrates break-beat and fractured melodies without making the songs feel incomplete - a complete, sophisticated exploration. She is incomplete and imperfect in this state of desperation, longing, desire, and disaster that she describes of herself. She was forthright with the same rawness that she maintains now. She has never, ever shied away from voicing her visions, her wants. As we watch Twigs be liberated, shamelessly putting words to feelings we all know, we, too, feel liberated. Her openness, her vulnerability - and yet her strength - is deeply inspiring. That said, she has become more sophisticated at doing this over time. In LP1, while raw, her lyrics lacked nuance at times. But that came with time. I also appreciate the Flume-like electronic sounds of the 2010’s that can be found in the album. The instrumental melange of the LP was only foreshadowing for the sonic acrobatics that Twigs would show us she is capable of later on.</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - FKA Twigs - MAGDALENE (2019)</image:title>
<image:caption>One of the saddest albums ever written. An ode and a testament to female strength and fragility, MAGDALENE put Twigs’ vocals on the center-stage, highlighting it as the vessle for the sensual music she is sourcing from deep within herself. This inherently corporal nature of MAGDALENE is fitting for a project whose core is to be an exploration of the female body and experience in it’s rawest, most vulnerable form.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I've never waited so patiently for a record as I did for EUSEXUA. The wait was worth it. Twigs did not dissapoint. EUSEXUA is a hauntingly stunning, technologically intricate, and beautifully raw piece of work. Each track was memerizingly strange. Below is a quick breakdown. Its also worth noting that I developed a newfound, deeper love for the album after listening to FKA Twigs explain the concept of Eusexua and the inspiration for the album. <image:title>Forever Favorites - Dominic Fike - Don’t Forget About Me, Demos (2018)</image:title>
<image:caption>Demos, I have never forgotten about you. Technically an EP, I'm still going to include it here for how remarkable and memorable these songs were for me. Dominic Fike’s guitar and catchy choruses got me through some of the lonliest days of my adolescence. To have such awesome production so early in a musical career is absolutely ridiculous. His vocal range is as massive as it is painful. I have never heard a voice compliment guitar the way his voice does. Or maybe the strings compliment his voice? Who knows. It's clear the notes guide him. Everything feels intuitive. I was only 12 when I was streaming the EP, but I remember it sounding like no indie I had really heard before. I think the world knows this is true now, too. 3 Nights now has over a BILLION Spotify streams. Immense.</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - Omar Apollo - Friends (2019)</image:title>
<image:caption>It’s not every day someone so early in their career puts together such a damn good collection of songs. But then again, not everyone is Omar Apollo. Because this is an EP and not an LP, and the tracks are excellent on the individual level (rather than working together), I think it’s fitting to walk through them one-by-one. I promise there is something for everyone. Ashamed: The vocals on this go stupid. And they suit the bass and guitar so well. Such a fun track. Kickback: That groovy indie that reminds me of growing up. Love the lyrics on this one. Friends: The saddest on the record. Can feel incredibly relatable in the right circumstances. His voice sounds so beautiful at this tempo, too. I really love when he does the synthed autotune vocal parts. There For Me (Interlude): OMAR APOLLO OWNS INTERLUDES. I SAID WHAT I SAID. SOMEONE TELL HIM TO MAKE HIS INTERLUDES INTO FULL TRACKS. Hearing Your Voice: The prettiest on the album. The pain of being far away. Of moving on. So Good: Another thing Omar owns? 80's groove-inspired modern indie. I swear this may be the most original feature of his work. If others do it, they don't do it as well. His fusion is top notch. The groove instrumentals mixed with his lyricsm gets you both dancing and singing along. Trouble: My favorite on the record and one of the best indie songs that exists. Granted, it is an incredibly nostalgic record for me, but I really do think the vocals and guitar on this are remarkable. How can someone be so sad and cool at the same time?</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - Omar Apollo - Ivory (Marfil) (2022)</image:title>
<image:caption>Whatever minor critiques I had for Ivory (like petitioning for Endlessly Interlude to be turned into a full track) were fufilled/corrected in Ivory (Marfil). I truly believe this is one of the most well-done indie records I've ever heard. Every song is well-produced. each is so different. They all compliment eachother so well. From the “QUIERE ESE LOUIS VUITTON” of Tamagotchi to the “QUIZAS NO TENGO EL VALOR” of En El Olvido, Ivory captures every angle of Omar Apollo. It is so damn multifaceted. Raw, nonchalant, hot and heavy. Plus, the Daniel and Kali features were the perfect choice. Two incredible artists that brought so much to the album without renegading Omar. It makes sense that the two artists were highly involved in the songwriting process of their respective tracks because they feel incredibly tailored to them. And the extra songs on Marfil show exactly what a good deluxe album should be. Besides turning my most favorite interlude into a full track (which I had been begging for), it brought 4 new banging tracks to the end of the record. With a gun to my head I don't think I could say which of them is the best. Though not putting Archetype on the original record feels like an actual crime, so maybe that one. God Said No, his 2024 record, was solid but I doubt anything he puts out in the future will ever stick with me the way Ivory has.</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - The Story So Far - Under Soil and Dirt (2011)</image:title>
<image:caption>An absolutely ridiculous debut album. A top-to-bottom piece of work that is as catchy as it is coherent, Under Soil and Dirt formed me. Every single song contributes tremendously to this perfectly-sized album that is bursting with energy without being a stream of unfiltered sound. At just 19 years old, it is immense that Parker Cannon was able to lead the band into such a well-produced first project. The Quicksand to Mt. Diablo run is ledgendary.</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - The Story So Far - What You Don’t See (2013)</image:title>
<image:caption>Their angsiest yet tightest record yet, some of the band’s biggest hits are on What You Don’t See. To date, Things I Can’t Change and Empty Space remain among the band’s biggest songs, though there really isn’t a miss in the entire project. It is rare for a pop-punk band to evoke such emotion as TSSF does in What You Don’t See. They do so by making sure their memorable melodies are never drowned out by the overall sound of the record: punchy, yet singable.</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - The Story So Far - The Story So Far (2015)</image:title>
<image:caption>By far the most powerful TSSF album, if you like a lot of heavy bass and drums, the self-titled record is for you. It features some of the band’s most charged lyrics set to their most screamable melodies (it was my favorite driving album for a reason). Heavy Gloom is one of the best songs I know, though there really isn’t a skip on the record. The self-titled record promises to leave at least one bridge stuck in your head.</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - The Story So Far - Proper Dose (2018)</image:title>
<image:caption>Proper Does the TSSF record of choice for many, many fans. I think the genre/tempo changes felt refreshing for people and made the record feel more dynamic than their other work. While this is true, it made the album lack power at times. While this is not a bad thing, it means it is the record I return to the least. I don’t listen to TSSF for their softness. Still, I absolutely return for the songwriting in this album. It’s beauty softens me.</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - The Story So Far - I Want To Disappear (2024)</image:title>
<image:caption>The Story So Far returned in 2024 after a roughly 6-year hiatus with their album I Want To Disappear. Coming in at roughly 30 minutes, comprised of 10 tracks, the album offered a new sound from the band while still maintaining their same old spunky spirit. For old fans, the new sound can be a little jarring (it was for me), and initially, the album might even feel like a ‘miss’. But after a few listens, I found their new sound to be contagious.</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - Brent Fiyaz - Fuck The World (2020)</image:title>
<image:caption>A legendary R&B record. Fiyaz didn’t sound like anyone else to me since the beginning. As I’ve said before, most R&B can feel like lullabies for sleep. Repetitive, monotone melodies with one-dimensional writing. Fiyaz cultivates a dark, atmospheric space using bass melodies, synth, vocal harmonies, layered drums, and moody, bold writing. It’s impossible to be bored listening to Brent. Fuck The World, as the title implies, deals with some of the world’s toughest questions - in the flowiest, sexiest way. He is seducing you with his singing, hes flexing on you in his raps, he is hypnotizing you with his layered choir-like singing. He never shies away from telling you how it is. From what he wants. From how he feels. This album was also the first time I noticed his remarkable use of monologues, sound effects, and speaking interludes. The ability to make the most of these elements have continued to set his work apart. (PS. it is a crime that Bluffin’ is among the least-streamed tracks on the album).</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - Brent Fiyaz - Wasteland (2022)</image:title>
<image:caption>An awesome album. Even more varied and diverse than his previous work. Keeps you guessing down to the damn skits (which are a whole dramatic cinematic production in themselves). His sound evolved here, ever so slightly away from soul and towards an edgier-alt sound. He traded sleepy for cinematic. Sonically, this album sounds like mystery. Sneaking around. A little creepy. It is his sound on a bigger scale. Of course, the sound effects and skits continued to shine here. Fiyaz said he wanted the record to feel like a story, rather than a playlist. Skits add dimension. That being said, his are by far the most advanced I have come across. More than anything, I think Fiyaz’s writing came through on this album. He balanced more upbeat, catchy melodies while maintaining good storytelling. Compared to Fuck The World, it also makes sense because he is tackling far smaller problems on this record. Rather than taking on the world’s biggest problems, Fiyaz is working through fame on his first record since really taking off in 2020.</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - Brent Fiyaz - Larger Than Life (2023)</image:title>
<image:caption>If Fuck The World was sleepy and Wasteland was cinematic, Larger Than Life was a blast to the past. The 90’s / 2000’s egde ensured it did not sound like his previous work. While it’s arguably his least soulful, it is also arguably his most fun to listen to. The production was fantastic and, while I do usually appreciate Fiyaz’s skits, it was nice to get an album that I could listen to all the way through without long talking interludes. There is a considerable amount of speaking weaved into the tracks, but it is done in a way that lets the melodies flow into one another, rather than being seperated by skits (as was arguably done in Wasteland). This is largely the reason that many call Larger Than Life Fiyaz’s most cohesive record to date.</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - Phoebe Bridgers - Stranger in the Alps (2017)</image:title>
<image:caption>I really don’t know how Phoebe Bridgers did this. I can’t imagine the suffering someone has to have endured to produce a record like this right out of the gate. Stranger In The Alps stirs feelings I didn’t even know I had within me. Her ability to shape atmospheres via heavy whirring, steel guitar, catchy little drum snares, and soft acoustic strings is really, truly other-worldly. There is no way this record does not destroy you.</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - Phoebe Bridgers - boygenius (2018)</image:title>
<image:caption>A visionary first record for boygenius. The trio worked better beyond what I could have imagined. Between Lucy bewitching you with the (slightly akward) charm of her stories, Julien dazing you with her slowburn vocals, and Phoebe breaking your heart, boygenius makes us feel close to the three artists, who have created a space where they build on eachother’s talent and make up for eachother’s blind spots.</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - Phoebe Bridgers - Better Oblivion Community Center (2019)</image:title>
<image:caption>While perhaps not the most original project ever, BOCC is interesting in that it is neither perfectly Bridgers nor Conner Oberst (Bright Eyes). The build-up of songs like Sleepwalkin’ and My City combined with the industrial electronic elements to songs like Exception To The Rule keep the album feeling fresh and avoid monotony. Overall, the writing is pretty damn outstanding (Big Black Heart is particularly beautiful), making it a timeless indie record to return to.</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher (2020)</image:title>
<image:caption>A record that very likely changed the course of my life. Somehow, Phoebe’s darkness on Punisher pulled me out of my own. In the beauty of her art, I found the strength to create my own meaning in life. While there are actually more skips on this album for me than there are on Stranger In The Alps, the highs and lows achieved on Punisher make it a greater and more dynamic album overall.</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - Phoebe Bridgers - the record (2023)</image:title>
<image:caption>The artistic jump from the self-titled record to this one was so tremendous. Out of their comfort zone on the record, boygenius is pushed into the extremes. Playing it less safe leaves the band sounding imperfect at times, but also gave us with some of the best indie songs of the year (True Blue, Cool About It, Not Strong Enough), as well as some of the saddest songs we’ve seen from the trio (We’re In Love, Letter To An Old Poet).</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - Phoebe Bridgers - the rest (2023)</image:title>
<image:caption>While no where near as good as the record, the rest left us with: “You thought I’d never leave and I let you believe you were right.” And goddamn, that’s enough.</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - Morgan Wallen - If I Know Me (2018)</image:title>
<image:caption>Absolutely every song on this record qualifies as a banger. I think much of Wallen’s success as an artist can be attributed to the catchy but simple tracks he put out on this record. They did a fantastic job of catching people’s attention and establishing him as a respectable upcoming country star. I often find myself reminiscing about the love (and heartbreak) songs on If I Know Me..</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - Morgan Wallen - The Dangerous Double Album (2021)</image:title>
<image:caption>A dangerously good album. The double album (with two disks) was the beginning of his 30+ track albums. Dangerous was one of the first long albums I’ve listened to (as a country-loving preteen) that did not bore me out of my mind. Both sonically and lyrically, there was an abundance of variety, which makes the album incredibly fun to listen to. It never tires, and there truly is something for everyone.</image:caption>

<image:title>Forever Favorites - Morgan Wallen - One Thing At A Time (2023)</image:title>
<image:caption>I knew One Thing At A Time was going to be good from all of the buildup to the album. The pre-release PR was some of the most he had ever done for an album. Turns out the wait was worth it. One Thing At A Time is a no-skip album. Wallen plays around with sound, features, and his voice in new ways for the first time while simultaneously offering some of the catchiest tracks he’s ever made.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Pearling is the Scottish producer-performer starling flaunting just 5000 monthly listeners on Spotify and limitless creativity. Lovelocket, just 7 songs and 15 minutes long, is the artist’s first mixtape, released earlier this year. Her Melanie Martinez-meets-Grimes mix lands somewhere in the realm of slightly disturbed cottage-core fairy pop PC music. Acutely girly with gritty drum layers, Lovelocket is bittersweet.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Praise Kink - Ballads for Da Bizness, Ms*Gloom (2024)</image:title>
<image:caption>I admittedly know very little about Ms*Gloom - as do most people. The Persian Gossip Girl-coded diva is dark and mysterious (but like, in an authentic, not performative way). Outside of making atmospheric, moody electropop crying-in-the-club music, her hobbies include being a full-time dollface baddie and making sick-ass art. It would be a sin to call this queen a singer.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Praise Kink - Chances, Acopia (2022)</image:title>
<image:caption>Anyone that says Chances is anything short of excellent is lying. In the years since quietly releasing their debut, Acopia has been making louder music in recent years - but somehow, Chances remains their boldest work. The Australian trio is sure to be a favorite for fans of NewDad, Night Tapes, Pearly Drops, Oklou, and the like. It should be illegal how crushing their music can be while being so damn delicate.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Praise Kink - No More Like This, PVA (2026)</image:title>
<image:caption>London trio PVA’s second LP is gritty yet somehow ultra-refined. On it, their alt electronica sounds tight, confined, yet simultaneously emotionally open and imaginative. The secret? Tension. PVA is whispering secrets into our ear but has their hand around our neck. No More Like This feels like being wrapped by a boa constrictor. It is a slow death.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Praise Kink - It Was Only Perfect Because It Was Never Real, Teather (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>It Was Only Perfect Because It Was Never Real might be the“hear me out” of this playlist. Teather is among the greenest artists featured here, and I sense this siren is still getting her sea legs. After all, the record her first real debut, and it was largely self-produced. Its not perfect. But I don’t expect it to be.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I may very well be unable to accurately describe Anna Justen’s MiCHOU’s DREAM better than Hugh at Turn & Work has already done: “Anna Justen’s debut MiCHOU’s DREAM is a fractured dream journal disguised as an indie-folk album. It’s glitchy, emotionally sharp, and constantly off-kilter.” Upon just one eye-opening listen, you won’t struggle to see why the Seattle-native’s debut album belongs in this playlist.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - A Strange Dream - I Become A Shade, Seoul (2015)</image:title>
<image:caption>Seoul is truly the soul of dream-pop (pun intended, haha). I dare say the band’s one -and-only, first-and-last 2015 album I Become A Shade is a record that slipped under the radar. The band spent a total of two years publishing music before quickly disbanding - or, rather, disappearing without a trace. You only have to listen once to I Become A Shade to understand why exactly their dissolution is so regrettable.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - A Strange Dream - Changing Rules, AFAR (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>I can’t put my finger on just why this record reminds me so much of Kamanių Šilelis. Maybe it's something about the cover’s resemblance to the Lithuanian' duo’s 9. Or maybe its their strange cadence that somehow results in surprisingly coherent storytelling. There is something uneasy about AFAR on Changing Rules. An unpredictability. An unforeseeable weirdness.</image:caption>

Ripe with possibility and bursting with artistry and energy, the young artist makes us feel like anything is possible on INTRO - exactly the kind of energy a debut album should carry. Kaeto has already given us a heads up that she doesn’t subscribe to your stories about her. Consider the doors kicked down.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Patch+ is Brooklyn-based Franklin Wallace (Beneviolence) and Alexander DeWahl. White Paper (2023), the duo’s first LP built on their small collection of preexisting singles to cumulate in a minimalist yet surprisingly profound piece of work. At 30 minutes, White Paper is a half-liminal, half-catchy space shaped by a fusion of synths and acoustic strings.</image:caption>

<image:caption>thredd is among the most exciting names in indie at the moment. Their specialty? Cold pop. Part of the coldwave scene, the new wave subgenre is known for its minimal, melancholic, and icy electronic sound that juxtaposes detached vocals and impending synths with charming pop warmth. <image:caption>When Abby Dillingham for office magazine called Oxis a “digitized ocean fairy”, she hit the nail on the head. The 21 year old Dutch artist has been quietly publishing music barely three years, but has developed a significant loyal fanbase of listeners opting for serotonin over dopamine. In an era of overload, Oxis offers a welcome escape into the sea, where she (along with her fish friends), soothe us with her self proclaimed “marine electronica.”</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Transparent - Sex Week, Sex Week (2024)</image:title>
<image:caption>When Sex Week’s wonderfully understated Upper Mezzanine EP caught on earlier this year, a search into the duo’s background felt imperative. The search resulted in the pleasant discovery of the band’s first and only LP to-date. While the two do sound considerably younger on this self-titled record, it works in their favor. While sonically shyer than Upper Mezzanine, it is lyrically bolder. More honesty. More rambling. More nakedness.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Doomed Desire - Mostly Forever, Bluhm (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>The more I hear from Bluhm, the more I am convinced of their ability to be my next favorite indie artist. The Detroit duo - which I have written about before - is sure to truly take off some time soon. In just the last couple of months, their listeners have grown - and this newest EP explains why. By far their biggest and dreamiest work to-date, Mostly Forever is a hauntingly beautiful account of drama, desire, and sex.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Doomed Desire - Time Time Time (I’m In The Palm Of Your Hand), Yndling (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>Oh. My. Production. The artistry of this album cannot be understated. I’m embarrassed to admit that Yndling was not previously on my radar. But, oh boy, she is now. The Norwegian solo artist is navigating uncharted territory on her third LP. Far beyond dream-pop, the record reaches into a daring otherworldliness. And it works.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Doomed Desire - Upper Mezzanine, Sex Week (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>Sex Week is a current obsession of mine. While their 2024 self-titled debut (featured on the Barely There playlist) was soft-spoken, fragile, warm, and oh-so-sexy, this most recent EP from the Brooklyn-based duo channels a completely different energy. Fusing genres, Upper Mezzanine is partly uneasy, partly charming, and strangely romantic.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Doomed Desire - No Place To Land, Night Swimming (2024)</image:title>
<image:caption>Yes, another EP. But its not my fault. Since bursting onto the scene in 2022, Night Swimming has yet to put out an LP. A tragedy, really. Despite the similarities in name (and an admitted sonic resemblance), Night Swimming is not to be confused with Night Tapes. While both bands are from the UK, the 5-member band from Bath/Bristol with a sadder sound is far less known than their London-based counterparts.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Among my favorite albums of the year. Musicality is all over the place in the best way. Like a whole universe stuffed into a little bottle. Colorful, funky, wonderfully surprising. Do not let the outdated-looking album cover fool you. Musicality is fresh. haloplus+ brings a weird art-kid touch to the romantic sounds of adolescence. <image:title>Fresh Finds - Body Dysmorphia - The Most Dear and The Future, ear (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>ear’s debut does not disappoint. The experimental music collective has racked up an astonishing fan base in just over a year of releasing music. With just four singles, the duo amassed a monthly listener count of hundreds of thousands. There was pressure on this debut album. <image:caption>On their second LP, confusingly and yet charmingly titled LL, The Hellp finally started to sound like themselves. While their debut Vol. 1 (2021) was a step in the right direction, it was most certainly not the full picture. They hadn’t quite figured out the perfect equilibrium of unpleasantries and fire production, leaving them somewhere just… unpleasant. Three years later, under Atlantic, the duo returned. Focused. Clean.</image:caption>

But in the off-chance that you don’t know the rather popular art electronic duo, Bassvictim is Polish-English vocalist /writer Maria Manow and American-English producer Ike Clateman. <image:caption>You know a pop record is good when Anthony Fantano rates it a 9/10. For both long-time fans of Animal Collective and those that have never heard of the band before, frontman Noah Lennox’s most recent solo album is for you. While staying somewhat in-line with his own solo discography and that of his own experimental pop group, Sinister Grift strays slightly, too. The LP not only more accessible than his early work, but therefore more pleasurable as a result.</image:caption>

<image:caption>mark william lewis’ newest, self-titled record is among the best of 2025. The LP is unconventional pop at its finest - riddled with pain, anger and imagination, it is a perfect expression of cynicism in a modern world. With a sound that echoes Mark Kozelek’s Red House Painters and Sun Kil Moon, Lewis’ music is not made for running. It is for sitting and staring at the River Thames.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - An Ode To Outliers - In Russia. A is a 9, EXUM (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>EXUM is an anomaly. The former NFL star (with an ego ten times the size of his discography) has made a diverse collection of records over just the last 4 years. This makes it hard to pinpoint his genre (if he has one at all). He amassed a fan base through pop rap and experimental hip-hop across his first two records, Xardinal Coffee (2021) and Tickle Pink Hotel (2022).</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - An Ode To Outliers - Dancin’ In The Streets, Rat Heart (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>Arguably the boldest, most experimental record on this playlist. As Rat Heart, British DJ/producer Tom Boogizm emerges from the shadows of the abyss (no literally, this is his first recorded piece ever) alongside his rat pack of accomplices to present us with the wretched and mesmerizing Dancin’ In The Streets. Born Jesper Vervoort, the mysterious Amsterdam-based artist remains on the outside of any real “scene” as he blends electronic with indie, R&B and ambient pop. <image:caption>Vegyn is an ellusive man with an even more ellusive discography of genre-blending music he has been recording for over ten years now under PLZ Make It Ruins. Despite only being released last year, The Road To Hell Is Paved With Good Intentions is not Vegyn’s most recent record. In fact, the English artist has released two albums since, both in 2025.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Car Culture aka Daniel Fisher aka Physical Therapy understood the assignment on Rest Here. This record embodies the energy of Ode To Outliers. Strange. Magical. Misunderstood. Oddly beautiful. Rest Here feels like a patchwork of a thousand dreams, faces and stories. They may not be mine, but the record resonates on a surprisingly, inexplicably profound level.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Intergalactic Burnout - La Meillure Chose Que Me Soit Arrivée, Galatée (2019)</image:title>
<image:caption>Galatée has a vast and varied discography you may, too, find yourself paralyzed by at some point in time. Lost sea of synth pop, it is hard to choose a favorite EP or LP. However, time and time again, I find the atmosphere and conciseness of La Meillure Chose Que Me Soit Arrivée difficult to beat.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Intergalactic Burnout - Later Than You Think, John Maus (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>John Maus is a strange and diving figure. His messy affiliations - educational, political, and genre-wise - make him a bit of an anomoly in the indie and experimental music scene. The PhD “philosopher pop-star” has been known to mix lo-fi synth-pop with existentialism. As he weaves together ideas about the birth and demise of the world on Later Than You Think, his voice becomes one of the instruments in the hymns that characterize the record.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Intergalactic Burnout - Amateur, Molly Nilsson (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>Amateur is Swedish Molly Nilsson’s eleventh studio album since she started recording back in 2009. Nilsson’s records are not terribly distinct from one another, making it rather difficult to choose Amateur over one of her many other albums. However, I feel highlighting Amateur is doing justice to Nilsson’s progression. While all of her work stays within the nostalgic confines of the synth-pop genre, Amateur feels the most relevant and modern.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Intergalactic Burnout - Midnight Hill, Bluhm (2024)</image:title>
<image:caption>On their beautifully-produced sophomore album, the energing independent Detroit-based duo Bluhm captures all of the same existentialism as the other albums on this playlist but with litte less synth and a little more indie. While maintaining a predominantly new wave spirit, Midnight Hill sees Bluhms voice at the forefront of the album, rather than drowned into the hazy instrumentals as in the other records.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Intergalactic Burnout - NITE, Nite (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>Nite’s career-defining record has landed. The brand new record, dropped this month, is far from their first, but still feels like a debut - and not just because of the self-title. On this fifth LP, they are the biggest they’ve ever been. Nite’s aesthetic cohesion has never been the problem. They have always known the exact atmosphere that they want to create. The challenge, rather, has been bringing it to life.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Intergalactic Burnout - Passenger, Nightbus (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>Nightbus’ newest record is a gem. Arguably my favorite (current) record on this playlist, Passenger was released this October is the band’s first studio LP. From 2023 until now, the Manchester natives had been mostly remixing and sprinkling in only occasional original tracks of their own. While good, they were insufficient in letting us get to know the artists. Their sound was kept at bay, out of our reach. Passenger has changed that.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Sonic Wandering - Sd-2, Loukeman (2024)</image:title>
<image:caption>Loukeman is doing stellar things. Sd-2 is the second installation to his 2021 debut LP Sd-1. Both are good, though I believe Sd-2 is a more rewarding project. Loukeman builds club-ready and ambient tracks from indie, pop, R&B, and hip-hop foundations, erecting a collection of songs that take a variety of shapes and forms. In this way, Sd-2 has something for everyone.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Sonic Wandering - Daisy Cutter, Ouri (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>Ouri has an immense command over emotion. With such small movements, she makes waves that send ripples through the whole body when listening to Daisy Cutter. The album draws from indie, lo-fi, electronic, pop, and R&B to create a strong atmosphere out of delicate string of sounds. Although her lyrics are drowned out, it matters little as Ouri’s magnetic vocals feel like more like means than an end.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Sonic Wandering - w/ The Producers, Paul St. Hilare (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>Dominica-native and Berlin-based Paul St. Hilare is an anomaly. For over two decades, Paul St. Hilare has been making consistently good techno-dub fusion music. But for the artist who has said “I prefer to say a little ting and stay out of the light” to Resident Advisor back in 2021, w/The Producers is awfully front-facing. In collaboration with some of EDM’s best, Paul St. Hilare’s voice comes to the center stage on w/The Producers.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Sonic Wandering - Kissom, Xexa (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>On her third album, Xexa perfects her approach to Afrofuturism. With dance-floor energy against an introspective, ambient backdrop, Xexa designs a radiant soundscape layered with throaty Portugese vocals. The album hovers in one place but witnesses a transformation - like watching a sunrise. In other words, it is vertically coherent, rather than spread across subgenres. This means it is less daring than other records in this list.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Sonic Wandering - Goodness, feeo (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>The tracks in Goodness by feeo act as intermitent interludes of ambient distortion. There is a cast of disturb to the album in its entirety, but taken individually, the tracks can offer some form of peace. The album has been hailed as one of the “most breathtakingly beautiful albums of the year” by Pitchfork among praise from many critics and, while I would not go so far as to agree, I concede that the album is a rather brilliant concept piece.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Spaceship - MADRA, NewDad (2024)</image:title>
<image:caption>One of the best indie records I’ve found in a long time. While not the most visionary or original album ever, NewDad simply nailed the basics on this record. There really are countless Irish/British alternative groups making great music in this genre (you can’t blame them, they’re damn good at it), but NewDad is truly among the best of them. With succinct, punchy writing, production that verges on shoegaze without being muddled.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Spaceship - portals//polarities, Night Tapes (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>Night Tapes has been having a moment. I first came across London trio (with an Estonian frontwoman) in 2024 through their every day is a game singles. Their recent growth, no doubt, can be attributed to their unparralleled ability to curate sonic moods. They do not merely create sound, they create headspaces. A way to view the world. portals//polarities, their first LP, is a complete journey through liminal emotions.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I will not write extensively about Belong, as I have already written a (very affectionate) full-length review of the record in News & Reviews. I will only say that, here, Jay Som is cultivating freedom. A warmth, a comfort, and a freedom. Belong, in the glory of its production and freshness, feels like roaming - safe, but facing a future of a million possibilities. With excellent writing, sonic variety, and a high cool factor, Belong is an ode to the indie and a must-listen for lovers of the genre.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Spaceship - Drag, Yumi Zouma (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>Drag is the most recent EP from the beloved Kiwi alt-pop girl group Yumi Zouma. Drag has just enough dream and just enough despair to fit into the playlist perfectly. While the lyrics do not stand out on Drag, the production on the EP is undeniably clean and tight. Yumi Zouma captures female fustration and bottles it up into airy, cinematic indie rock anthems that feel truly appropriate for any place at any time.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Spaceship - Is It Now?, Automatic (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>Is It Now? is Los Angeles-based Automatic’s fourth studio LP. The record is a danceable surge of grunge and synth-pop energy that cuts right to the heart of our turbulent moment. With tight grooves, various random sonic elements, and pleasant vocal production, Is It Now? is like a reckoning of the “terror in the skies” with the need to remain optimistic. Automatic will not be victims to the turbulence of our times.</image:caption>

<image:caption>If you’re looking for power, Pixel Grip has got you covered. The Chicago-native trio has been making industrial grit pop for six years now, and they keep getting bolder. <image:title>Fresh Finds - Growl - ICU RUN, Camilla Sparksss (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>I was excited for this album as soon as I Camilla Sparksss released I Like The Noise. The single was an obnoxiously seductive assortment of textures compiled into something that fell inbetween acid breakbeat, bitch techno, and pop electronica. With facsinating foreign instrumental influences (that I am not knowledgable to place exactly), I Like The Noise is one of the hottest songs of the year.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The self-proclaimed “snuff-pop pioneers” have returned in 2025 with a hard-hitting portrait of mania. Speaking of portraits, the album cover is one. Patriarchy is a duo with their own little one that they take from tour performance to tour performance. <image:caption>The New York native Brokin Paper is known for evading genre. Just when you think you’ve understood something of his, the rug is pulled out from under you by a drop of acid, a rap verse, or a bizzare beat drop. <image:title>Fresh Finds - Growl - No Sound, Mercy Girl (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>No Sound is the Glasgow-based Mercy Girls’ newest release. While only an EP, it packs a punk comprable to the LPs featured in this playlist. It is a high-intensity four-track lineup jammed with lush synth and dark feminine mystique. It honors the feeling of wandering in a dark city, losing yourself in movement, in others, in corporal experience. It is a record for getting out of your head and searching for something undefined.</image:caption>

<image:caption>At the intersection of electroclash, dark theater, and club sweat, there is the beautiful SANG D’ENCRE. In their fourth studio album, French duo Potochkine emerges shadowy and reserved while still offering something danceable and dynamic. The album is perfectly paced, sophisticated, grandiose. The production is varied but consistently impressive. Through and through, SANG D’ENCRE feels like a coherent and complete piece of work.</image:caption>

Lay Low a new kind of project for Píjus. <image:caption>One of my favorite EP finds of the year. With just over 6k monthly listeners in Spotify and without an album, DJ Kirby’s skill is slipping under the radar. The mysterious man, whoever he is, has one hell of a talent for mixing. Skydancing is a perfectly-paced 6-song EP that keeps energy high and swag even higher. Landing somewhere between trance and hard dance, I can’t decide if Skydancing feels more like a brain massage or brain workout.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Drift, Dream - DJPE2025, DJ Planet Express (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>DJPE2025 is DJ Planet Express’ newest, high-energy, ecstasy-inspired collection of songs. Perhaps the most dramatic of the albums featured in this playlist, DJPE2025 feels like a sonic exploration of wonderland (most certainly inhabited by the small frog creatures pictured on the album cover). The trance elements feel at-home in this spacey, sometimes even weird or playful album.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Jazz Rot - 0, Low Roar (2014)</image:title>
<image:caption>Intimate and other-worldly at once, even when trying to embrace indie on 0, we are reminded that Low Roar is capable of making songs for worlds bigger than our own. I personally love the story of how the band was discovered by video game creator Hideo Kojima, who heard the band playing on the speakers of a vinyl shop while visiting Reykjavík (the band’s homeland).</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Jazz Rot - Force of the Wind, SOYUZ (2022)</image:title>
<image:caption>Force of the Wind is a special, soft-spoken fusion of old-school Brazilian jazz and neo-pop with Eastern European charm. The piano, flutes, and strings cultivate a fluttery sense of wonder, yet the album maintains a sense of calm at all times. The Belarusian take on the Brazilian bossa nova roots prevent the album feeling dated. It feels fresh, rather than nostalgic. It is one of the easiest listens I have encountered in a while.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Jazz Rot - Instant Holograms on Metal Film, Stereolab (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>The newest album from Instant Holograms on Metal Film, Stereolab is here (as always) to cheer us up. In the business for over three decades, the band finds themselves somewhere at the intersection of indie, old-school rock, bossa nova, and lounge-pop, and funk. While you might be abe to achieve much of the same goal by listening to any one of Stereolab’s records, Instant Holograms on Metal Film stood out to me.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Jazz Rot - Cliffhanger, Grimm Grimm (2018)</image:title>
<image:caption>Hands down, Grimm Grimm needs more attention. The Tokyo-born London-based artist is terribly talented at balancing charm with creepy. Grimm Grimm swaps big production with his own orchestra of delicate details that come together to create a fragile but full sound. Cliffhanger, while off-kilter at times, are not overly-so. It feels like a folk dream in some uncanny reality.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Jazz Rot - SNOEY, Zack Villere (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>SNOEY is Zack Villere’s own little world. The record feels like being a very little person, walking around the big, wide world. It is whimsical exploration of Steve Lacy-like guitar riffs, lo-fi, and soulful jazz warmth. In this way, SNOEY feels at once intimate and otherworldly. The premise of the album is a yeti named Snoey discovering music for the first time. It therefore was an attempt to capture the wonder of hearing something beautiful and strange at once.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Jazz Rot - Blurrr, Joanne Robertson (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>I know what you’re thinking, but don’t judge a book by its cover. Although Blurrr’s album cover looks like an outdated Facebook profile photo (I honestly can’t tell if Joanne is trolling us - no offense if shes not), it is a real gem of a record. If you don’t believe me, just take a look at Pitchfork’s review, where the record has been given an astonishing(ly rare) score of 9, placing it in the “Best New Music” category.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - System Overload - Total, SebastiAn (2011)</image:title>
<image:caption>A jaw-dropping record at first listen. I honestly do not reccomend listening in public because I guarantee a freak-out (or at least uncontrollable dancing). Friends of mine have not shut up about SebastiAn for years, but this was my first time listening myself. I've heard few productions as unique and wild as those featured in Total. I cannot attest to his other records, but this one feels brave. daring. True electro house / dubstep.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - System Overload - KOREAN, kimj (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>Yeah, so this is insane. By far one of the craziest albums of the year, kimj’s renowned and respected production skills is here honor, not replicate what many loved about Skrillex (I’m terrified of the fanbase). His production work with The Deep and Effie launched him into a niche space of fame some years ago, but it is on his two recent solo albums that you painly see his musical genius.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - System Overload - I Love My Computer, Ninajirachi</image:title>
<image:caption>If you are (weird enough to be) searching for the intersection of (hyper)pop, cybercore, EDM, indie, and glitchcore, look no further. On her clean debut LP I Love My Computer, Ninajirachi emerges as a clever computer-loving internet-inspired anime-addict stylistic shape shifter. Ninajirachi’s influences are vast (from SOPHIE to Skrillex) and she manages to turn them into her self-proclaimed “girl EDM”.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Black Cat - Heartcore, Blanche Biau (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>By far, one of the best albums of the year. This was an incredible find (credit to A.P.) and I have personally been listening to this record non-stop since discovering it. Munich-born Zurich-raised Blanche Biau was not previously on my radar, nor is she on many people’s radars. With around 30k monthly listeners, Blanche creates her self proclaimed “sad but dreamy” (and sometimes nightmarish) shoegaze indie.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Black Cat - Star Witness, True Blue (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>If you like Heartcore, you will surely like Star Witness. The LP is not an album but a mixtape, featuring all her singles since 2023. Seven of the eleven songs on the record had been previously released as singles across the past two years. Nonetheless, seeing them compiled in this way grants a newfound appreciation for the tracks’ surprising coherence. Despite playing around with genres, Star Witness remains on-theme throughout.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Black Cat - Object Permanence, Sophia Stel (2024)</image:title>
<image:caption>Sophia Stel has one of the most interesting voices in pop at the moment. Despite the young artist’s (intentional) awkward and amateur persona (which is actually part of her charm), Object Permanence feels very cool. Through and through, it gives damaged model energy: 50% super fucking sad, 50% super fucking hot. Object Permanence is just as good for self-loathing as it is for self-love.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Black Cat - choke enough, Oklou</image:title>
<image:caption>Oklou is making her way to the top. It has been lovely (and not without hiccups) to watch Oklou locate her sound after over a decade of making music. She is a remarkably unique and innovative artist. Very much like FKA Twigs (whom she recently collaborated with), Oklou’s music feels like an extension of her person(a). She feels full of unsolveable mystery - her music brings us close to understanding, but never all the way.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Black Cat - The Voices Are Coming Back, Pearly Drops (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>With flawless production, Pearly Drops walks us through ambition, burnout, isolation, and identity loss wrapped up in their dizzying, dark indie-electro depths. The cinematic sonic soundscapes make the perfect background for Sandra Tervonen’s ethereal, high-pitched, soft-spoken vocals. The blend of electronic and indie elements is perfect, keeping the album both coherent and stimulating.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Black Cat - Only music makes me cry now, Becky and the Birds (2024)</image:title>
<image:caption>Swedish Thea Gustafsson emerges as a soft, experimental vision on her sophomore album, Only music makes me cry now. Jumping between alternative forms of R&B, acoustic-strum indie softness, and layers of electronic textures, the record feels like a complete picture of the girlhood that Gustafsson aims to capture. It is an immersive record ripe for reflection.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Alt Rock Isn’t Dead - The Portal - Balu Brigada</image:title>
<image:caption>A warm welcome to the newest (and most promising) members of the genre. The excellent singles released leading up to this debut album successfully prepared me to be thoroughly pleased. This well-produced, funk-infused alt rock record feels youthful and true to the young brothers behind the band while simultaneously perfecting the recipie used by the genre legends 10+ years ago. <image:caption>Despite only releasing their first record in 2022, The Dead Bolts feel like they are beating the alt rock legends at their own game. Ladies and gentlemen, this is how its done. Their newest album, Heavy Pulp, demonstrates their persistance. They have the sound down to a T - betwene Brennan Smiley’s voice (which was made for the genre) and the classic blend of everything from piano to tamborine to Strokes-like strings, I am eternally grateful for The Technicolor’s presence.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Feeling petty? flowerovlove has got you covered. The English artist currently touring with Olivia Rodrigo is only 19 and I love seeing that reflected in the music. I want to hear the nasty and cutesy and feisty and fierce and insecure.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fresh Finds - Main Character: Singles - American Dream Trajectory, Sam MacPherson (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>A song that speaks of adolescent oppression but sounds like freedom. This single grapples with the struggles of youth while giving hope for a better future. “My life is a movie” at the intersection of folk, pop, and indie rock.</image:caption>

<image:title>News - New In: Men I Trust - Equus Aquinus</image:title>
<image:caption>Brand new Men I Trust album! I don’t think you can approach their new music with any expectations of anything new or surprising: just an ever-perfection of the sound they have been continuously mastering for years now. I always remark at the quality of their production and overall the auditory pleasure evoked by their music. A nice album for spring, calm evenings, walking, parks, or studying.</image:caption>

<image:title>News - New In: Men I Trust - Equus Caballus</image:title>
<image:caption>UPDATE! The release of a second Men I Trust album just two months following their latest release prompted a search into the story behind the double-up. The first, Equus Asinus is named after the latin ass, or donkey. Meanwhile, the recent drop, is titled Equus Caballus, or horse. With similar color palettes, I thought it might be a deluxe or extended version? But no.</image:caption>
