Freakquencies: Volume 1
I love The Dare. When life is feeling dull, they are consistently here to serve us energetic, uplifting fresh funk adrenaline dance techno. What I appreciate about The Dare is their technicality combined with the variety they deliver. Each song sounds different, even to a non-techno junkie. Freakquencies: Volume 1 embodies this. Since the last time I heard from The Dare was their remix of Brutalismus’ Scee, I was thrilled with this new EP. The balance of energy and technique was there, making for an overall well-rounded and sweaty listening experience. The samples and audio extracts used were on point yet varied. I love seeing the samples they choose and then watching them stray from them, incorporate them, and play on them. Dropping the beat, layering drums then pulling them out, using silence and giving space to the sounds all help Freakquencies: Volume 1 to feel sparkling clean. I also appreciate the trance elements across the tracks. I do not know how many volumes of this funk is yet to come, but I hope for more.
