I Barely Know Her

008

I was surprised when I discovered sombr would be releasing an album so soon. My first thought was that it felt a bit… rushed. Listening to the record confirms this. The young singer has been skyrocketed to fame in the last 6 months, not to mention become an international indie heartthrob. It was only a matter of time before the attention pressured the youngster into releasing an arguably premature album. Is the album bad, per say? No. To be clear, I like sombr. He is an undeniably talented, quirky Gen-Z icon. The problem is that he quickly found a hit-making recipie: the elevated balad-fused bedroom pop about love that captures the attention of his young fangirl fanbase. undressed and back to friends both have over a billion streams collectively. If sombr wants to outlive these hits, he should have taken more time on I Barely Know Her. With patience, he could have worked on his sound, created some additional tracks, and maybe found some other subjects to write about (his poor ex must be so tired). I Barely Know Her doesn’t get the listener any closer to sombr - probably because he doesn’t even know himself yet. So we will wait.
