let go letters

005

If you don't know the inspiration behind let go letters, I reccomend looking into it. While on tour, Avery Anna would ask audience members to write letters about their current struggles. Avery collected them and ultimately chose various ones to sing about in each track. Thus, the record is not a personal story, but rather a collection of universal hardships faced by people everywhere. It is both original and heartwarming. That said, the tracks sound repetitive. Each is essentially a different shade of sad, with melodies that dont vary much. It feels as though it tried to go deep with the prompt/premise of personal stories of struggle, though the execution/production kept it surface level. Her age and voice also tend to keep the record sounding juvenile. Overall, her voice is not one I have an easy time listening to for back-to-back tracks. I tend to appreciate her more on duets or as a feature. With time, I think she has the potential to find a stronger sound. In the meantime, let go letters was a wholesome attempt at storytelling real human suffering.
